Local Election Transparency Commissions

Michigan Election Reform Alliance, a partner of the NEDC, has a proposal to guide development of a nonpartisan commission for election protection in any state.

A fundamental obstacle to building quality electoral systems is the absence of clear consensus on priorities. Components of any new voting system should meet specifications intentionally set forth by a public process.

The Michigan Election Reform Alliance (MERA) recommends the development of a local, nonpartisan Blue Ribbon Election Transparency Commission that can develop a comprehensive plan for retiring the current generation of election technology.

Legislation should be introduced to establish the Commission and provide opportunities for extensive public comment. The process must openly decide upon principles, goals, and quantifiable metrics for success.
